"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."

John 15:12 | NIV

As we welcome in the new month some may approach February with some trepidation - remember the end of February 2018? Heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures caused travel disruption as the wintry weather took over. Police reported several crashes as driving conditions worsened, schools were closed, and The Met Office warned of freezing conditions. Yes, The Beast From The East had arrived.

February is the shortest month of the year; the month of Love as it holds Valentine's Day in its midst; and the month of whispered hopes. A time when those green tips are pushing through the soil. We know winter has still a sting in its tail but there is always the promise of new life and warmer days ahead.

When the outward signs are dull it can be all too easy to slip in to a negative state of mind, so it is important that we do all we can to brighten our day and even more important, where possible, to brighten the day of someone else.

What if you turned your focus to others?

Perhaps it is time we made February a month that focused on love? Not on romantic love, but on loving the people closest to you, on loving people in our community and on loving ourselves. The kind of love which Christians throughout the world are charged with sharing, the love of God. A love so freely given to us yet often kept within us. Jesus told us to love one another. So, in February let us spread a little love around our little corner of the world?

Within the calendar of February there are several days where our focus can be on others, here are just a few:

Make this February a positive month a month where God's love is seen in all of us.
